Wealth

Pretending, at its finest

Most people don't know much about wine 🍷 But at dinner, we all pretend.

You scan the list, avoid the cheapest, avoid the most expensive, land somewhere safe in the middle. "Excellent choice, sir," says the waiter, who has watched a thousand people run exactly this algorithm.

Everyone plays along. Nobody calls anyone out, because we all know it could be us next.

No worries. It's harmless with wine. Less harmless with money 💶

Because we run the same performance with our finances. The car lease, the watch bought on credit, "we're looking at a little place in the south" said at a dinner party, or nodding knowingly when someone says "the markets have been rough." Signals of control, chosen the way we choose wine: not too little, not too much, whatever looks right from the outside.

Meanwhile, here's what the data says: Google searches for "help with mortgage" just hit the highest level ever recorded, above even the 2008 crash.

Publicly, everyone is fine. Privately, they're searching for help at midnight.

We've become better at demonstrating control than at having control. Interesting to reflect upon.

Unfortunately, it's not just a cosmetic problem. Chronic financial stress sits in the same risk category as smoking and diabetes for your heart 💟. The performance is exhausting precisely because the underlying worry never gets addressed, it just gets outfitted.

The thing is that actually being in control is invisible. It's just a person who knows their numbers, knows their runway, knows what happens if the rate resets, and therefore sleeps well at night.

👉 That's what Senso is about. A private place where you see your whole financial picture clearly, with no waiter hoping for a tip and no adviser hoping for a commission. Nobody there to perform for. It won't say "excellent choice, sir." It'll just show you where you stand as a neutral sparring partner, and help you to navigate your financial life.

The wine act is fine. Everyone should keep bluffing about tannins.

However, wealth management is the one place where 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘨 beats 𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨.

With the support of Senso, you can maybe become the best sommelier in town!
